I know I have said this 5 billion times but……. I’m back y’all. Sorry to all my loyal followers for the sporadic posting. If you don’t know what sporadic means, scroll up to that red button at the top of your screen, the one with the “x” on it. Yea, click that.
Anyways… Check out this new video! I don’t normally post music videos but this is a special case. Shout out to Jussy B and Antonio aka FatFat. Click here to follow Jussy B on tumblr!
If you don’t get the title then you’ve been obviously living under a rock.
So, today class I will be speaking about my hometown, San Francisco, California. There’s a lot of great things in this city but what comes up must come down so, there are some bad aspects as well. All I have to say before plunging into deep analysis is… everyone has a right to their own opinion but, not every opinion is right. With that said, if you are from, lived in, currently live in, or desire to live in San Francisco, don’t take it personal, I am just speaking from 16 years of experience. Also, I’m offering a perspective that a lot of sites on the internet will not. I am a young person of color. Most of those review things are from older, white males. No offense to you older white males out there but I’m just saying. There’s a big difference between you and me.
Okay, now for the good stuff.
So, I don’t really care for SF and here are some reasons why:
- Random Hot Days
- 6th Street
- Smokers Downtown
- Everything Closes Early
- Did I forget to mention Hipsters?
- Everybody Knows Everybody
- Lack of Culture (this is a recent epidemic)
- Stuck up people in Pac Heights
- Traffic after 4 pm
- Not so great employment opportunities
- Bad schools
- No Starbucks in The Mission
Okay, so that’s just the bad stuff… but here’s some stuff I actually like.
- Fog (yes, I like the fog)
- everything is relatively close
- Trader Joe’s
- The Mission (but sometimes I hate living there)
- A lot of places to get food (it’s not all good but it ain’t that bad)
- Rainy Season in March
- The Castro
You see how the bad outweighs the good? Well, some may say I won’t find anywhere better but I have to disagree with that thought. When I have traveled to at least 10 cities, that’s when I can really pass judgment. Until then, I shall just speak on what I know well and best, San Francisco.
So, to all the people who read my tumblr rant on how I don’t see why people think SF is this wonderful, world-class city this post is a further explanation of my disdain. I see a lot of tourists downtown and I never get why they think SF is great after only looking at a couple blocks of it.
In conclusion, if you’re looking to move to San Francisco, I suggest visiting for a week and not staying in a hotel downtown. Stay somewhere else and let me know if you still feel the same. But I will say this, if you live in SF always take the time to go other places and explore. I know way too many people who are born and raised here and have never set foot outside the city besides going to Serramonte. And when I say explore, I do not mean go to Tahoe or Burning Man. I’m talking Sacramento, San Jose, Oakland. Other places in the Bay that are worth spending a day in.
I’m sure not a lot of people are going to read this BUT, to who ever does, I hope this was informative!
I haven’t posted in a while due to my busy schedule but, I did have enough time to watch tonight’s baseball game! I doubted the Giants but now I see I was terribly wrong! GO GIANTS!!! I am happy they won. This is about the best I have ever seen the Giants play in a long time. I just might buy a jacket or something. I’m such a band-wagoner for this but I don’t really care!
Just one question, why is it called the “World” Series if it is only played by American teams? Just wondering…
Get Smart. Don’t Jump On The Bandwagon. Well Maybe If You Live in San Francisco.
Yes, yes I know this is primarily a music blog but, check it: this is my blog so I can post whatever I want. Boom. Please take no offense on the “boom” if you are from San Francisco and know what that means. I am simply ranting in this post.
Let the rant begin!
I am so sick and tired of people with bad attitudes. I am not going to disclose the person I am referring to but, seriously, life gets rough sometimes just shut up and deal with it. Things only have meaning when you give them meaning. Existentialism. Get Smart. In other words, when you start giving certain negative aspects in your life meaning, you are bound to suffer along with that negativity. But you can pay it no mind and move on, that way you are not dedicating your life to trippin off of every bad thing. I’ll use myself as an example. I’m not always happy with my life. Heck, I’m sitting here posting on a blog that hardly anyone reads! Am I trippin off of that? H-E-Double Hockey Sticks No! I don’t even think about how much my life sucks at times (because it does suck at times!) I think about the future and what is going to make me happy. I think about moving to NYC in the near future, my major in college, how I’m going to build the “Unknwn” brand, and other great things I’m trying to accomplish. To make a long story short, life sucks sometimes….get over it. Everything is temporary so don’t waste time trippin off of unhappy things.
Get Smart. Get Happy. Live Life.
It’s the end of a long Tuesday and I am already daydreaming of the weekend. According to a couple of my party people sources, there are going to be some good performances this weekend in San Francisco. Also I got some info for some events happening on the East Coast as well!
Check it out!
Saturday, September 11th Too $hort will be at the Mezzanine in SF. Doors open at 9pm and it’s $35 for regular admission and $50 for VIP. It’s a little up there in the price range but, who knows, Too $hort may be worth the extra cash. Hit up http://www.mezzaninesf.com/calendar.asp for more info & to buy tickets!
Now for you Latin music lovers like myself, Bachata singer Prince Royce will be in town!
This Saturday he will be performing at Roccapulco. I think the doors open at 8pm but I honestly haven’t been able to find much info on this one so for sure hit Google up if your interested in knowing more.
NOW, for my East Coast folks:
check out http://www.santospartyhouse.com/event/index/id/1726 this Saturday they are gonna have some really good DJs spinning Reggae, Reggaetronica, Soca, and other Caribbean sounds at the Santos House in Manhattan NY.
also check their calendar out because the coming up events make me want to take an emergency NYC trip!!!
So yesterday I went to Oakland to check out their Gay Pride Celebration and it was pretty good! It cost $5 for regular admission and $10 for the “VIP” admission which knocked $1 off drinks. If I were to compare the experience to Pride in San Francisco I would have to say Oakland is a winner. Due to having to pay to get in, I doubt any naked people were admitted, which is a major turn off for many in San Francisco. I attended San Francisco’s pride parade like I do every year, and there were more naked people then in public showers at your local YMCA! It was kind of gross… I was expecting a similar outcome in Oakland but, there were no naked people (that I saw at least). There were your typical “exhibitionists” or as some call Leather Daddies. I don’t want to scare any viewers with a definition of a “Leather Daddy” so get smart and Google it!
To cut a long story short, Oakland’s pride festivities were quite enjoyable and delightful. Entertainment was good, food was good, and the crowd wasn’t naked.
San Francisco: TAKE NOTES! OAKLAND MIGHT HAVE JUST WON THE BATTLE OF THE QUEENS THIS YEAR!
-actually want a review of the celebration? Go look it up. Or check here, there’s some good info (it’s not a review though!) http://www.ebar.com/news/article.php?sec=news&article=4668 and check here for some cool pictures and Chaka Kahn’s performance! http://renwl.org/calendar-events/oakland-gay-pride-2010-rocked-check-out-pix
